Get a mate to check your brake lights. But the switch has 2 contacts, one for the lights and the other to the ecu.

Know anyone with vcds? Where are you?

Switch is about £20 iirc, can be done DIY.

When mine went I didn't have any brake lights.

There is a switch behind the brake pedal which controls the brake lights. Get it changed. Relatively easy part to fit, but having not done it myself, not sure how exactly you do it. Time to get your head down where your feet usually go. ;)

any one near perth can switch the fault code off??

Once the switch is replaced, the glow plug light will go out and brake lights will work again. The fault code will still be there but will not pose a problem long term. PS: If you fancy one HELL of a drive, I have VCDS in Devon :D

Have a look in the diagnostic section. There's a list of members with vcds and the areas they cover.

I got mine replaced by the local garage. Cost me £60 all in. I seem to recall they had to reset the fault.

Because the switch has 2 pairs of contacts, one to the lights and the other to the ecu, it could be that one circuit is working but the other to the ecu isn't.

I saw this, and started writing a reply here - but then thought it might be worth it's own thread - see here!
