Electric memory seats

Featured Replies

So, car was new on Tuesday.

We went out this morning with the spare key to set the mrs key up so it all sorts the seat between her settings and mine when we each go to the car only to find that it has stopped working.

I can adjust the seat in all directions and set it, then hers.

When we open the car with each of our keys or use the memory button it moves the back of the seat, the height and the mirrors but now doesn't adjust the forward/rearward position.

Not very confidence inspiring in a 4 day old car!

Have the same problem myself, occured a week or two ago. When I first recieved it it worked in all positions, now it works in all positions except forward/rearward as you say. So this is at least a problem that exist in more than one car! Will take it up with the dealer tomorrow, but I dont have much confidence they have heard about it.

Mmm, that doesn't bode well.

I'll tell my dealer tomorrow. Its in Friday for a towbar so they can sort it then.

I have exact the same !

I have made an appointment with my dealer on wednesday, I will keep you updated

I had the problem a few weeks ago .. but it seems to have corrected itself.

Mind you the main problem with this is that I am 5' 10" and the misses is about 4" 8" .... many a time I have taken her key by accident and gotten in to the car and within seconds the seats have me stuck to the windscreen .. have given a few people a laugh in random carparks !!

There are a few little strange habits with the electric seats. My passenger seat sometimes is fully reclined when I unlock the car (not every time- about every fourth time) and no amount of fiddling with the MFD will sort it. I've decided to cop it sweet as my local dealer runs and hides when I drive in!!

Anyone got anymore info on this? Havent gotten around calling my dealer yet.

Mines still not working (just forward rearward movement) and I'm dropping it back to the dealer Thursday to investigate.

I'll update as I find out more.

Just to update I'm at my dealer now and they are investigating.

Mind you, after 40 minutes he came to me and said "can you show me what's wrong" this is after it being explained to two previous people there and it being printed on the warranty sheet.

Worse of all he's just canned my seat setting to test it rather than using #3. Took me ages to get that right lol!

Anybody else have any luck?

So, 2.5 hours later, no fault found on their diagnostic machine. Although there is an obvious physical issue.

The issue is being raised with SUK and he says most likely they'll have to have the ECU and possibly the seat out to investigate.

Will update as things progress.

I suspect an electrical issue.

When you use the buttons, the seat is moved by the motors as you expect and the settings are stored in the ECU.

When you press the key to unlock the car, the seat is operated remotely by the ECU. Could be a wiring issue on the forward / reverse motor from the ECU preventing the power getting through.

As the seat is not on the canbus system no fault will be recorded as the ECU is correctly sending the command to the seat, it could be something as simple as a loose connector. However it could be a common wiring loom fault which would necessitate its replacement, judging by the number of instances in this thread.

My drivers seat has started with this problem today. Does anyone have any more updates.

Thanks in advance

Anthony

Awaiting my dealer now.

Although, I got in the car yesterday and to add to the issues the passenger seat had fully reclined itself.

Just had my car new from Monday and my wife's seat fully reclines about one in two times from entering the car. Thought I'd not read the handbook but this might be the same problem!

Best fun is to get out the car, adjust the other half's memory setting to right forward, laugh.

To be honest I do not bother as I think I have a difference setting each time I get in thr car. Best thing for back etc is to set each time. I do a thousand miles a week any love all the setting for up, down, in , out , lumber - up, down in and out but it is the changing of it a bit every hour or so that keeps back ache away.

Best seat I have had in any car, Audi, Opel, SEAT, Volvo. Pus the toasting settings in these -20C winters. Wish the Windscreen had clear and fitting winter tyres was not such an insurance nightmare.

Hi

First post on this forum.

Electric seat key memory failure.

Took delivery of my superb greenline combi this summer, built late juli 2011, to 2012 specs, had to wait a cuople of weeks the factory was rebuilding the productionline for the 2012 models.

Ok, the issue/problem and the only one i had so fare.

As mentioned earlier in this tread, the electric seatmemory losses memory, the keys can not be programmed to remenber my or the missus seat posistion. Also the memory buttons funktion on the seat it self does not either store antyting.

The seat can be moved manual, up/down, the backrest forward/backward, seatbase forward/backword only short steps... 1 cm 7 cm 3 cm etc, never all the way front to back with one push...

First wisit to dealer two weeks ago, they could not find anything broken, they reset the electric unit and let it sit without power for some time and after that, voaila! It worked fine, for 1½ week... then last friday same problem, back again, car is going back again wednesday this week again.

Has anyone got this problem fixed and know the couse of this problem.

What dealer fixed it for you?

According to my dealer there was NO error code to be found when they hooked the car upp to there "faultreading" cumputer......

Have been googling this problem for some time know and found lots of forums and treads with this problems mentioned but no where i have found information of anyone have this failure fixed!?

Well I have the same problem, the seat had been working with the memory set perfectly. Since the weekend I don't go back or forth, unless I use the switch rather than the memory.

There is a big plug under the drivers seat that comes from the floor, I am tempted to disconnect it for 10 mins and see if if resets the seat controller. My only worry is this could end up with me getting an air bag error.

Does anyone know if this is a good / bad idea?

My car i back at the dealers shop today, anf if i got it right from the servicemanager they where going to replace the electric seat stearing unit. Properbly get the car back this afternoon. Will write back here if they find out what is really wrong.

Got a VW Bus Caravelle TDI as a free renatal car while my car is in the dealers shop. BIG car but wery comfortable.

Went back to pic my car up today, asked what was wrong and the servicemanager told the mekanic had replaced the electric stearing unit för the seat. Lets hope that this problem will end here.

Mines still not sorted after two separate days at the dealer. I've been given some bull about them awaiting test results from SUK, I suspect this is just to Keep me waiting a they don't have a clue.

Getting frustrated now, this is obviously a common fault.

I have been told by my dealer that there were no errors when they investigated. Dealer sent problem and diagnostic to SUK for them to investigate.

Speaking with the dealer, SUK think that it may be a problem with the seat command module and want my dealer to swap it with a car that has working seates when they next get one in. If this fixes the problem, SUK will then send out a new command module to replace mine.

Just have to wait until the dealer gets a car with the same module now.

After convincing my dealer there was something wrong it's going in next month for more investigating.

First off he did tell me it worked fine and to RTFM. He then tried to set the memory without the key in the ignition, I kindly told him how to set it and asked if he'd RTFM

yup- mine too! superb elegance built july this year. memory seats jsut adjust height and back - not base fore and aft.

Going to wait a month or so though and chin the local dealer to update the maps to v8 at the same time- and they can f888 off if they think i'll be paying £170 for the privelege on a 2 month old car (like the supplying dealer (a certain large dealer in Leeds ) wanted to do)!

If you have VCDS do a basic settings on the seat memory. With this "reset" I managed to reset all the memory buttons,I finally managed to reset the memory synchronized with the key(was terrible when I had someone else to drive my car),and I finally solved that minimum backrest angle to which the memory can be set.Now I can set the backrest pretty far away from the steering wheel and it still hold the memory.

Taking the car in for it's 1st service in 3 weeks or so and will be leaving it with them until sorted. They don't know this yet but I'll be keeping the loan car until it is.

They're talking about testing/swapping the connectors now, why that wasn't done day one, who knows!
