Vrs engine

Featured Replies

Awaits you know who to slag off the vRS engine...

There are problems but all engines have their problems. Only common fault I can think of is high oil consumption during running in period. As far as I'm aware it's the only engine in production that's turbo and supercharged. It's been around since I think 2005 and yes like many engines they have teething problems but most have been worked out. I asked a friend who works in Audi before I put my order in and he said nothing unusual or common had gone wrong with them. There's the few with the mechatronic going but that's the gearbox and not the engine and they are rarer than you may think.

Edit: Here's a vid but it's just the turbo one

am i you know who :giggle:

As you say its been around since 2005, so should they be having teething problems in 2011?? The TSI(170) has a different turbo which ran more boost compared to the newer TSI(180). I think most of the issues are to do with the injectors and spark plugs. The 2.0TFSI and 2.0TSI had far less issues in comparison, but then this engine is far more complex putting out neigh on identical power.

Theres a fair few enigne failures happened on SeatCupraNet

Don't worry it's not you. :D

Didn't know about engine failures. How many and how often have they happened? Mods involved?

Mixture of nodded and unmodded cars

As Si has said the main problem seems to be a build up of carbon (I believe) in the injectors.

I believe the Fab vRS has upgraded injectors, still not seen anything to confirm this though

I believe they were upgraded at the beginning of last year, so I would think all/most vRS's will have the modified parts..

there is an advantage to getting an engine late on, most of the niggles should be sorted! have there been any vRS failures that anyone knows about?

One girl I spoke to at Inters had to have a new engine in her 60 Plate vRS, only one I know of though

something to bear in mind is the cupra has been out ages so would have been the guinea pig for the 180ps engine

My vRS ( Feb 2011) is in the garage at the moment.

Sometimes ( only when cold ) there is a misfire - exhuast warning light comes on.

They kept the car in over night. Started the car the next day - sure enough if left to idle - exhaust warning light flashes.

They have sent the computer printout to Skoda.

So far - they have found a missing seal ( not sure which one) and they are replacing some parts.

I am lucky that I have an excellent Skoda dealer ( been with 8 years)

Will post the details when I have discussed this with the mechanics.

John
