hi, have only had my octy a week and already summat gone wrong, hope this isnt a sign of things to come!!! basically my thermoswitch has gone,(****ed out all the coolant on the m60!! was stuck there for over an hour waiting for a 'master bodger' to temp fix) am getting qouted 30 quid, but have been told to try a scrap yard, only thing is, there doesnt seem to be any octys in any of them!! (good sign maybe??) could i get one out of a golf or audi or something? have been told that the engines (1.9tdi by the way) are the same, as skoda/audi/vw are all one and the same company, even been told that some ford/seat engines are the same too, is that true.

thanks in advance for any replies, thanks

joe

Why would you want to fit a second hand one? Just buy a new one and do it once.

Hi and welcome aboard.

Not sure how a faulty thermo-switch would cause you to lose all the coolant. If the fans were not working then you would only start to overheat if you were stuck in traffic for a long time and then you would have plenty of warning.

Why do you think it's the thermo-switch?

Do the fans work at all? If not, check the green coloured fuses on top of the battery

If you had so little coolant that the thermo-switch was uncovered, then the fans wouldn't run.

was trying to figure out why engine was getting hot, turned out to be thermostat, mustnt have put circlip back in corrctly, and thermoswitch popped out with water pressure, think rubber washer off switch is on m60. it was the guy at the autospares shop that told me to try a scrapyard, because the switches rarely fail, said it would be quite a lot less than a new one

Are you talking about the thermo-switch which is on the left of the radiator or the coolant temperature sensor which is next to the thermostat?

the one thats next to the thermostat, its kind of like a metal bung with wires
