Bluetooth Retrofit with Bolero but no MaxiDot or MFSW?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Need some advice please.

Is it possible to fit a 5N0035730D bluetooth unit to Bolero system but without MFSW or Maxidot on an FL Octy? Will it work without coding? Is there any other bluetooth units which is more compatabile to this spec without retrofitting MFSW and Maxidot?

Probably could do with a maxidot but not keen on MFSW due to cost. Should have had these options as factory fit:(

Not sure about this 5N0035703D Bluetooth without MFSW & Maxidot -

But I know someone on here has fitted the Kufatec Fiscon Basic Plus to a new Octavia with Bolero and without MFSW or Maxidot

You use the Bolero touchscreen to dial / answer / phonebook etc.

Its not cheap !!!

Have you bought the 5N0035730D yet? I've just fitted a 5K0035730 (Rev B ) to a facelift with a Bolero and admittedly Maxidot.

HOWEVER, immediately after fitting, before the car was coded (ie the phone menu was not visible on the Maxidot) i was able to connect the phone to the BT and make calls. You have to initiate the pairing from the phone within 3 mins of turning on the ignition, but once paired and connected, the phone connected automatically the next time the ignition was turned on.

There are somethings that you probably won't be able to do without the maxidot. I couldn't get music streaming to work (but perhaps i didn't try the right sequence) and you probably won't be able to delete pairings (this seems to be a maxidot only thing).

Although I can't confirm it, my thinking is that before the coding of my maxidot, my car and yours were "the same".

Also, I would suggest emailing the seller www*carsystems*pl (http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/www*carsystems*pl/) on ebay. I told him the spec of my car, and he pointed me to the unit i subsequently bought.

Thank you sdenny for your reply and clear instructions.

unfortunately i have the 5N0 unit.

Anyone tried this unit with Bolero and no MFSW and Maxidot? Any luck before coding?

No problem.

Trying to work out if you've fitted and are having problems, or not fitted yet.

If you've not fitted, it may be worth just giving it a go - it took me a couple of hours. If you fit the box under a seat (which is the "proper" place to put it), you'd easily be able to swap it out if it didn't work - the cables are the same what ever box you have.

If you've fitted and are having difficultly, i don't really know what to advise, other than to say that on mine, before the box is installed, then the phone button only mutes the bolero. After fitting, when you press the button it says something like "Phone not connected", until you pair a phone. The instructions for that are in the main Octavia hand book (page 125 in the pdf i have), where it comments on the 3 minute thing. Also on my box, the code was 0000 rather than 1234, so it's worth trying that.

The other complication you might have is that you box supports rSAP where as mine doesn't. If your phone doesn't support rSAP, i've no idea if you need to turn this off, and if so how you'd do it without maxidot.

Anyway - I hope you get this sorted.

Good luck,

Steve

I know it's a different system but you'd think the way it handshakes with the Bolero would be the same (else the Bolero would reject it?)...when I fitted my Fiscon the Bolero recognised it immediately with no coding necessary. It was only necessary to code it to get the MFSW and Maxidot to work. I can't see why it wouldn't be the same for the factory kit?

Thanks Steve, InexEng and IndianaBlues for very helpful suggestions.

I read else where in this forum that Shahoff tried this unit on his FL Octy but he was successful only after retrofitting MFSW and Maxidot.

Hopefully will give it a go this weekend and hope I am not working this week end:)

Did a bit more search about bluetooth modules.

The 5K0 module does not need Maxidot to pair only needs Maxidot for deleting. supports only HFA.

The 5N0 module needs Maxidot to pair. Also supports voice dialing via MFSW. supports both rSAP and HFA plus SMS.

Not sure about 7K0 modules. Did not search. will update soon.

Little time to test 5N0 'D' version this week end. Awaiting to retrofit Maxidot on FL.

Reinstalled 5K0 ----B unit on FL octavia. As above it worked on Bolero without any coding. To my surprise the 5K0 bluetooth unit (used one from ebay) works well with retrofit maxidot without any coding. It came off from a golf mk6 so assume some coding was done before on the unit. deleted previous user name. couple of fault codes on scanning with VCDS. Can someone suggest how to rectify them. These faults came back after clearing them. Many thanks
