Water in spare wheel well

Featured Replies

Trying to iron out a few things on my new yoke. Went to fit some soundproofing in the boot of my 08 VRS estate and noticed the spare wheel well had a lot of water in it. The rear windscreen washer is working well and there is no leaking from its pipe.

Put the hose onto the car and water quickly found its way to the wheel well. I isolated some sources of water.

Water came from behind this plastic plug in the wheel well which is shown below. What is this plug for? Should I put some silicone around it to seal it?

Then water started to pour out of these holes shown below. Any ideas where that water could be coming from?

Lastly there was a small amount of water leaking from around this vent. Would it be ok to remove the vent and seal up the hole?

Thanks in advance

The vent is pretty common, need to remove the rear bumper and take the vent out. Take off the crappy foam seal and then bond back into the body with tiger seal or similar sealant.

If water testing you should really only simulate rain by using a Rose on the end of the hose and let water fall onto the body and run down.

thanks Tech1e

Is it hard to remove the rear bumper?

Yes, I just let the rose rain down on the car for 10mins, and water poured in. What could cause the water to fill in to the level of the holes seen in the the second picture?
