Whose good with electrics/ICE?

Featured Replies

Hi all, I want to get a new headunit. I currently own a enonon unit, which is ok but has no radio signal and its very bulky.

I was on chinavasion and noticed they had tablets for £60 odd and I was thinking, would it be possible to manufacture one of them into a headunit? one that can plug in and hold a libabry of music and play it back through and amp into the speakers.

I want to go down this route/try it because I want a Harddrive style system so I can hold all my music and not worry, in the case of an ipod, that it is going to run out of power. Also with a tablet you could have GPS and even get dyno apps that can measure 0-60 times and fuel consumption so its pretty niffty idea don't you think?

I don't know where to start with this one so if anyone can shine some light on the situation it would be appreciated. Maybe even offer some better alternatives?

Regards,

Damian.

Perfectly possible to setup such a system

There are several ways such a system could be built

tbh the biggest difficulty would be finding a suitable mount for the tablet

A power connector and mini-jack can be routed through to come out of the central console

The headphone output of the tablet can be fed into one or amps

Such a system would require a reasonable amount of wiring, and wouldn't really be a 'cheap' or easy option tbh

A headunit with SD card slot can be had for sub £100, and that will work faster and better than a hard drive (hard drives are old-school tbh)

Cost of an amp and the wiring needed to make it work will cost £100++

Not trying to put you off, such things have been done before.

I was thinking of making the mount myself. if I was going to go this route.

TBH, I never thought of the SD option. Are you able to recomend any double dinns with SD inout?

I've seen people do it before at ultimate dubs and Ipads. Hence why I had the idea lol.

I have all the speakers set up with wiring for the sub and what not so that inplace. It would really just be connecting to the amp (active sub acting as the amp atm) if I go this route I would get a new vibe amp, actually, I probably have one of dads lying around I could have.

Would the headphone jack be the line out/control to the amp? Or does it not work like that?

Sorry if I have funny wording of things, trying to remember what everything is called. Has been a while since I have done ICE stuff.

God, those line drivers are bloody expensive! Is there a cheap alternative out there for it?

Lanzar Vibe 7

You could use a simple stero line driver like the Celsus Turbo 1 , split the signal into amp using Y splitter leads
