Crunching noise on start up

Featured Replies

Spent a good couple of hours sat on a very hot M4 today, I was stop starting all this time and when I felt we were not going to move for a while i switched the engine off. I did this a few times but on one start up I turned the ignition and the was a crunching sound from the engine bay. I turned ignition off and on and it started fine, and has been fine for the rest of the day! The car is a 2010 TSI VRS I was maybe thinking the starter motor was too hot but I really have no idea!

As i said its perfect again now and has been all evening so wondered if anyone had any idea's?

Thanks

Hi Mate

I have had this a few times over the last couple of months on my TSI VRS too. Is yours kinda like a quick, loud judder/rattle immediately after ignition for like 1 second?

Did you ever find out what it was? Asked at my service last week and no joy.

I have had it on mine but seems to of stopped fingers crossed.its sounded like the starting motor on mine was sticking, strange metal on metal sound that lasted for a second if that.then after that every time I start the car there was less and less of a noise till it was gone and back to normal.
