Dodgy front wiper motor?

Featured Replies

Got a text from swmbo mid week to say the wipers had stopped working but she could still hear the motor going. They were slow anyway for some reason?

Everytime you switch the car on they'll move and then stop on the screen....(won't work off the stalk). When they do decide to go back down they go to far.

I've had a code reader on it this morning but no codes have come up.

Anyone had this? Or can shed some light on it?

TIA

Had a quick look and it'll sweep once and stop halfway back down. if you turn the ignition off and back on again it'll finish the sweep and stop and so on?

Any clues?........duff motor?

I ended up replacing the motor to fix this issue .Its a common fault .

On a previous Audi i had, the wiper arm mechanism got a bit rusted and needed to be removed, cleaned up and re-lubed. Not sure if the Octavia suffers with this on older cars, but given that you could still hear the motor going, i wonder if this might be worth checking first (and the nut which ensures the mechanism moves as the motor turns hasn't come loose).

I wd40'd it and she said it worked for a bit then stopped again, so i'll strip it all at the weekend when im bk from work and grease it all. Fingers crossed it won't rain till then or she'll have to hang her head out the window

You can tell if its a seized mechanism as the alloy housing for the spindles will be noticeably warm after the wipers have been running.

95% sure this is the linkage as I have just replaced mine. The wipers went vvvveerrry slow then stopped altogether. I removed the linkage and tested the motor and it was fine. However the centre wiper spindle was rusted solid. After much WD40, heat and finally, wacking it with a hammer, I gave up and got another linkage from my local breaker. Not a hard job, just remember to note the wiper linkage arm position before you take it off. My wipers are now super quick
