PDC Query

Hi all,

I bought my car back early in 2008, the car was a few months old and had the Cobra dealer fit rear parking sensors which dont mute the radio or provide graphic display when reverse is engaged. Amongst a few other mods I decided back at the start of the summer to try and remove the Cobra kit and retrofit in the OEM factory fit PDC kit. I purchased this one:

It has the loom, OPS unit and 4 sensors and holders. When I went about fitting it the first problem was that the Cobra sensors are slightly larger, therefore they have a larger cut out in the rear bumper so I couldnt proceed. I have seen pre-facelift Octavias with a 'collar' around the sensors and the the sensor is slightly recesed back in to the bumper, I managed to find 4 of these and just got them from e-bay. As the collar on the sensor holder is larger than the cobras it means I can now fit these without having a large gap around the sensor, however my current problem is that the sensors suppled in the above kit will not fit in to the collar type holders. Im guessing that VAG have switched from one type of sensor to an other and different types of sensor brackets with the newer cars having a more 'flush' sensor fittment.

The following sensor will fit my new holders:

My question is does anybody know if the above sensors will connect with the wiring of the original 'all in' OEM OPS kit I already have bought??

Thanks in advance!

Guess I will just have to buy them and see...

i think the OEM ones mount from the back of the bumper and then sit flush, whereas a lot of the aftermarket ones mount into the hole through the front ? if that makes sense

the after market wires are fed in through the hole, whereas the oems have plug connectors

i think you may have to resort to either trying to fill and paint the gaps or else a new bumper

Also i think there are markings on the inside of the bumper for the factory fitted ones to locate them so they may be in a different position to the current aftermarket ones

i have this on my to-do list also so will be curious to know how it goes

Thanks for your reply Dallan, I think I have the issue solved with the pre-facelift sensor holders which have collars fitted. These type appear simillar to those fitted to the last shape 5 series BMW. They are a larger diameter than the cobra sensors so although they fit in from behind I shouldnt end up with a gap, I will however have to make the current hole larger. Only problem is there seems to be 2 types of OEM sensors the flush ones and the ones which are recesed with the 'collar' type holder and the newer ones which use a holder which doesnt have a collar and they sit flush with the bumper, I just need to find out next if the older type sensor share the same plug connector with the newer ones that way I can use the new OPS loom I have with the older OEM sensors!

Will keep you posted, you heading to the show in Fermoy?

EDIT: The car in the pic has the older type sensor holders
