Toyota Aygo

Featured Replies

Have been given a Toyota Aygo as a courtesy car since yesterday whilst mine is in for a respray, have been driving a mixture of roads - M,A,B and City.

This is one of the cars that first impression does it no justice, I really didn't like it when I first drove it, lack of driving position adjustment, tiny boot, noisy.

However, the more I drive it the more I become impress with it. It is reltively well equipped: A/C, remote central locking, electric windows, Bluetooth, CD..... The driving experience, although noisy on Motorway, it is fine in city and is fit for purpose.

This might upset some people, but after spending many days in 3 cylinders Fabia, I find this 3 cylinder has a very similar characteristics - low down torque and responsive at low rev range, however it is less diesel-like and is quieter than the 3 cylinder VW unit.

However, the gearbox is notchy, though quite slick as it has a short throw.

On the motorway, it is fine at speed upto the national limit, however it seems to be reluctant when I try to over take. In town, though, the engine is responsive, clutch is light. In fact the car feels really immature - which is no bad thing - it is full of youth and in order to appreciate it, you have to drive like one.

However, as a all round package and given the price, I think it is not really competitive. Fiat Panda is cheaper, rides better, has a bigger boot, more refined, whilst for a top spec Aygo, I could get a Fabia mid spec, which is more grown up and more all rounded.

To conclude, if I want a city car, I would buy the Panda without hesistency, and for a similar price, I would buy a Fabia, as it is much more grown up.

And the Aygo isn't really a Toyota. Its made in the Czech Republic sharing almost everything with the Pug & Citroen equivalents. The C1 is the same car for much cheaper. Toyota using their brand to charge a premium? Seems so to me.

I used to work for Toyota, felt guilty trying to sell them for the price they ask, lol

My Sister has a C1 VTR + 5dr. The equivalent Toyota Aygo was £2000 more when she purchased it.

The basic C1 3 door was 5995 OTR back in March - so cheap!

That said, I would never want one!
