The 'Bong'

Featured Replies

At last my dealers have resolved a long standing irritating issue whereby the Bolero defaulted to front speakers only when the Bluetooth connected and failed to return to my setting when the Radio/MDI/SD card were accessed.

A new telephone/bluetooth unit was fitted yesterday (lives under driver's seat, BTW)

All fine now and the 'problem' and resolution reported to Skoda UK who had not had this reported previously.

The new unit shows up on my iphone as 'VW Phone', connected without issues immediately and downloaded my phonebook instantly :thumbup:

The interesting point however is that there is no 'Bong' anymore!

I wonder if the VW badged part as supplied to my Skoda dealer by Skoda UK is a revision?

For Llanigraham:

BTW= By The Way

MDI= Multiple Device Interface

SD= Secure Digital

VW= Volkswagen

UK= United Kingdom, which currently includes the Welsh Principality ....

:rofl:

This is very interesting as, apart from the annoying 'bong', my Columbus screen always shows a mesage something like 'phone book not fully downloaded'. This doesn't especially bother me as the only calls I tend to make from the car are covered by the half dozen numbers programmed into the quickdial tabs, but it does suggest perhaps that there has been a revision/improvement to some aspect of the electronics involved.

The connection bong can also be turned off with VCDS. :thumbup:

MDI could also stand for Musical Digital Interface, although not in the context it\s being used here. :)

Errrrr no wait ..............

I wasn't here :no:

Hehe!

I know the bong might be slightly annoying but it has one big advantage - it bongs if it doesn't connect to your phone and tells you - great if you've forgotten your phone!

Very true, but if the phone is in the house and the car is within range, it will still connect and you can still drive off without the phone, not realising that the phone isn't with you emoticon-0140-rofl.gif. I know. I've done it. emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I have had the bong switched off, as the car still displays that it is connecting to the phone.
