Auto Dimming LED DRL's

Featured Replies

This has been something that has bugged me on my vRS since having it as all Merc's & Audi's etc do this.

You will have all seen how the DRL dim's whenever said car's are indicating. Well tonight i found out how you can enable it on the FL vRS. My Car is a 2011 car so not sure if this works on pre 2011 or not you would have to check.

To enable it you will need VCDS and do the following

Go into VCDS

Select Control Module - Cent Elec 09 > Coding > Long Coding Helper > Byte 15 > Tick Bit 3 - Daytime Running Lights (DRL's) inactive with Turn Signals active > Exit > Do it.

You should get a box pop up saying coding accepted. Click OK.

Remove VCDS and now when you have the DRL's on only whenever you indicate the same side DRL will dim to the same level as when the headlights are on. Once the headlights are on then there is no effect as you would expect.

This has bugged me as i think it is a useful safety feature to ensure no-one can say "I didn't see the bright flashing yellow light that is 8 inches away from the LED DRL due to the LED DRL being on and too bright" :dull::rofl:

Hope it helps someone

Carl :)

I think this is useful and effective on the Audi's as their DRL's are directly next to the indicators.

Luckily on the vRS the DRL is some distance away from the headlight so I'm not sure dimming them will see the same benefit.

Nice find though

I activated this for a members Yeti and it does indeed work, personally I didn't see the need for it on a Yeti as the DRL's are both quite dim and far enough away from the indicator (I have since undone the coding as the member later decided he preferred it not to go off whilst indicating as well)

BUT on a vRS I too think this is a useful thing to activate as not only will it make the indicator easier to see but IMO it will also draw your attention to the car when the DRL dims ... this can only be a good thing

Did this the other day on mine and forgot to post. Also done it on a mk6 golf with normal drls in the main beam section of the headlight. Think it looks pretty cool and is also another pointer that they aren't fog lights!

Carl, you are truely fab...... :p

Edit: shocking grammar corrected.

I did get the email thanks, to me they look exactly the same, I might just risk getting the one on eBay, its ended with no bids at £60, so I will offer that including postage and see what happens.

Have a look here mate for a VCDS owner near you.

Carl

You did this on mine when I came down in August!!...........or was it just fluke :-)

I thinks all drl's are far to bright and should be running on the dimmer setting, as another post said they are not fog lights, and that is what they look like. Why do we need them, if you can't see the car you should be using a white stick and a labby dog. And they look cheap and nasty.

And they look cheap and nasty.

You are showing your age, you sound like my Dad!
