Was just googling to find a genuine VCDS cable and software and came across this company who claims to have similar cable with full functionality as Ross-Tech with 1 year warranty. Its priced at one third the Ross tech price. . Have anyone come across this one and could some one comment on its usability.

Well no phone number or physical address, with mention of contacting them through their ebay account speaks volumes to me.

Wonder what Rosstech make of them.

VCDS is VCDS, and there's so many counterfeits around that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

1.. This seller offers no listed business address or contact by phone so making them difficult to trace.

2. This statement is difficult to comprehend from a company, and rings alarm bells in my ear.

We will then send you an online payment request, or setup the offline payment if required.

"VAG Diagnostics Ltd" is NOT an official reseller of ours. In fact they are selling pirated copies and we are currently persuing legal actions against them. Even though these actions are targeted against the seller, it is possible that the legal system will also take actions against those knowingly buying falsified products.

For the record, no VCDS system ever sold was or is tight to a specific version number. If you see an offer like that, especially those advertising old versions you can be fairly certain that it is not a genuine product. Also Ross-Tech does not do discounts, we do believe our product is worth every penny and considering that you will essentially get free lifetime updates we think it's a pretty good deal.

BTW: Each of our genuine interfaces contains a proprietary firmware and serial number/activation, VCDS will not work with 3rd party hardware. So if somebody offers a product which they claim is "similar", they would need to illegally copy/clone our firmware and serial number/activation.

I have a question for u, I have a full official lead, it's serial and I have an adaptor to convert it to USB but despite following all the instructions to install the driver I can't get t to work, I've changed baud rates too in case that was the problem, now, I have an old laptop with serial port but it's running windows ME is there any way to get software that will work on this laptop?

Try a PCMCIA card convertor to serial. This is what I did on my last laptop with my serial cable and it worked fine. They can be a bit funny with USB convertors...

for a long time there was no official way to use a serial interface with an adapter but as time goes buy solutions evolve and we do have one available for this purpose now. Basically it's a commercially available adapter which we've modified that gets tied to the interface (not just physically but also software wise), so once attached the interface will not work without it anymore.

One of our distribs will be offering those upgrades soon, if you're interested you may want to contact Derek Edwards from Ilexa and we should be able to set you up with this.

Their writing on the 'Support' page raises a smile too. No wonder Ross-Tech are pursuing them!

Our VCDS cables are manufactured for us specifically and are an exact replica of the Ross Tech's cable apart from they can only be used with the supplied versions of VCDS 908, 912, 10.6, & 11 Beta software. Our software is exactly the same as Ross Tech's version apart from our cables are coded specifically to work with our software. Due to this, do not try to use our cables with any other software (even from Ross Tech) as this can permanently damage the cable.
