DRLs retro fitting

Featured Replies

Can the daytime running lights from FabiaVRS but retro fitted to other fabia models to replace foglights has anyone tried this?

I'd imagine you'd need to change the front bumper as well

I guess they will be really expensive as well, maybe i should try and fit some strip style DRLs into the black trim where the foglights are housed. Has anyone tryed this is it a hard job.

Don't the DRLs on the vRS dim slightly if the dipped headlamps are on? A bit like Audis do when they indicate?

If so it might mean more involved wiring and integration into the lighting circuit.

Yes they do dip, to make the indicators much easier to see in exactly the same way as the Audis do.

Are you sure?

It is possible on the Octavia vRS to set them to dim when indicating but they don't leave the factory like this, it needs VCDS.

The vRS LED DRL's dim to perform the function of sidelights.

As the Audi's DRL's are in the headlight they very easily mask the indicators so having them dim is beneficial.

On the Fabia vRS they are down at the bottom of the bumper well away from the indicators...

They are about £100 for the pair.

As they are round they will only fit the Fabia vRS, Octavia vRS, Octavia Scout and Fabia Scout.

To fit them to a non-vRS Fabia you'll also need the vRS bumper.

You'd be better off trying to retrofit the Fabia facelift non-LED fog/DRL clusters instead...

i would like my drls on my monte to have led bulbss

I think the drls on the Monti are P21 bulbs.

If this is the case they can be replaced by high power LEDs but you will have to fit a resistor to prevent bulb failure warning light appearing in instruement cluster.

Thanks I have 2008 fabia 3 with round fog lights do you think these will fit.Am i right in thinking that drls go off when headlights are turned on? If so fitting sounds very complicated!

As far as I know the Fabia 2008 did not have DRLs fitted, the law did not require their fitment.

I think your car will have side light bulbs in the main headlight unit.

When you switch on yor side lights these light up.

This being the case you can obtain from Halfords,Ring etc a DRL kit the main component being a unit which connects to a power supply and to the live feed to the sidelight.

When you start the engine the DRLs will light up, when you switch on the sidelights the DRLs will go out.

This would take care of the wiring.

I do not know if the DRLs fitted to a vrs would fit in the space occupied by your fog lights. You would somehow have to compare size and mounting positions.

Tell me why this wouldn't work?

Take a line from an ignition switched supply, run it through a low value fuse (say half an amp) to one end of a relay coil.

Connect the other end of the relay coil to sidelights.

Take a second supply from somewhere (switched or unswitched), through a fuse rated for whatever the DRLs need, this goes to the relay switch for the DRLs.

This means the sidelights would be carrying the relay activating current when off and the ignition is on - but that would not be enough to make the bulbs even glimmer slightly.

Would need a diode in the relay coil circuit so putting the sidelights into parking lamp mode doesn't energise the relay if the ignition is off.
