Yetis standard stereo compared to upgrade?

Featured Replies

With my Elegance on order, I decided against going for the extra speaker option as they seemed perfectly acceptable but I wondered if it makes a dramatic difference with the extra speaker upgrade?

There is a difference in sound, as it is separated 3 ways rather than 2 ways. low medium and high, and the standard setup only has low and high. There is also a separate amplifier under the passenger seat. It does make a difference. Come and listen to Elsie the Helipad, I'm only just up the road.

Thanks For the offer Mike , Very tempting! More of a hypothetical type question as I'm trying not to spend any more on the option list as my wife would kill me! I may still have time to change the order given it wont be until March but I must resist at least for a few weeks ! :D :D

Yes the standard Bolero is pretty good as OE fitment stereos go, but the 12 speaker upgrade definitely raises the bar!

Other 'tricks' that you get is a set of graphic equaliser options, rock, pop, classical, speech etc. and a very useful 'normal', 'front only' and 'driver' setup that adjusts the front/rear/balance automatically; the 'driver' setting is particularly useful. ;)

PS> Forget that wood trim you were thinking of; go change your order to 12 speaker upgrade. A much more worth while use of a few £££s. :giggle:

No! Stop tempting me.....I knew I'd regret this post........... :'( :S

I have an upgraded stereo in my Octavia LE VRS, the Upgraded speaker pack in the Yeti is something else entriely, playing about with the "fader" crosshairs is a joyous part of any day  , a lovely sound, don't know if the cabin changes the way the audio sounds, but the 12 speaker system in the Elegance is stunning.

Go for it you'll only regret it if you don't

Forget a 12 speaker option..................................treat yourself to the sunroof, it's WELL WORTH THE INVESTMENT emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Nice try we have two other convertibles so figured I could at least give this option a miss! :D

I would spend the money on a decent system for the house. There is too much road and wind noise in the car to make an upgrade worthwhile. Stick with the existing system and listen to your good music in the comfort of your own home. Hi-Fi in a car what a laugh.

Having said each to their own re satnav on another post, I must agree that (in my view) all the extraneous driving noises render extra investment on sound systems a waste of money.

Never mind extra speakers. Park assist your wife will know it makes sence ;)

Not just SWMBO - I've only used Park Assist twice in almost 6 months but have been jolly glad of it on both occasions. It pays for itself if you just avoid one bump!

I use it several times a week. It is simply amazing to see it at work, (and watching people as you park no handedemoticon-0136-giggle.gif)

Got that covered as an option and electric seats!

You wont regret park assist. I wish the electric seats and electricly heated screen had been available when I got mine 23 months ago!

I enjoy every mile that i div,e like the first. Its a fantastic motor.

I've got the 12 speaker upgrade & PA, I have not even PA yet 3 weeks later! I use the speaker upgrade every day.

I have the extra speaker option since I had a BOSE system in my Audi. The Audi system made the central mirror vibrate on the windscreen when you crancked it right up... the Yeti system distorts LONG before it even thinks of vibrating the mirror! So it is not a patch on a proper BOSE system I'm afraid. Would I get it again? Not sure. I need to listen to the same CD in two cars back to back to be honest. But on a day to day basis I'd also say spend the money elsewhere. I'm with Macdemon. Get the sunroof. It really brightens up the interior especially if you have the all black version.

I have the 12 speaker upgrade and I do recommend it. I disagree with Terfyn, if you listen to the music loud enough properly, you can not even hear road noise. Or any other noise for that matter ;););).

Having said that, I have some problems with the speakers. There is some vibration coming from them that gets stronger with songs that have heavy bass. I found in this forum some tips on how to fix this (the door frame is the culprit) but I wanted to check with the dealer first.

Anyway I still would recommend the extra speaker option because it's still worth it.

I thought this happened because the door cards were quite thin, as we are driving the 'cheaper' cars in the VAG group.....

Thanks for the comments, I'm tempted but will hang on decision wise as I have plenty of time with the BIG wait . To be fair I mostly listen to radio 4 or BBC news of some sort in the car. Also I'm an AV buff so more likely to throw dosh at the homesetup. But good to hear pros and cons.

I've got a bit of a buzz/rattle from my nearside rear door on strong bass; not only on my favourite rock tracks but even happens with the double bass on some Oscar Peterson tracks, without the volume being that high. I keep meaning to make a visit to my dealer.

I'm sure it is a 'fault' as opposed to any deficiency in the spec of the door cards/speaker (otherwise the other three doors would buzz/rattle).

I have exactly the same problem, thought initially the bass driver in the driver door was blown, but it is the door trim "buzzing" ie vibrating, solved by judicious placement of a sunglass case. Other than taking off door fascia and padding in behind I cant see what can be done here, one case of the speakers being "improved" the door trim struggles to keep up. Worth noting my only niggle so far about my Yeti.

ditto - I also have the speaker upgrade and the columbus. Sounds pretty decent until you put in a DVD or anything with a lot of bass and I get the low bass rattle from the right hand door speaker. I think it sounds like a fault but not so convinced now. Wasn't that keen to go to the dealer again - my experience and views of dealers and audio is not something for a nice forum like this! I am now tempted to investigate further!

I've got a small but excellent car audio/hi-fi shop in the village. I might just drop into them tomorrow and see if they can offer any diagnosis. It will save trekking up to see my dealer.
