SD card problems

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have previously spent quite a time converting my bloomin' iTunes m4a files to Mp3 so I could use them on a 4Gb SD card in the Yeti. OK so far. The naming of each track was all over the place which meant if you heard a track and thought 'I'd like to hear more of that artist'... you couldn't. So I spent a couple of hours last night changing all the tracks to have the artists name in front to make it simple, then if I am using the MIX button and decide I want to listen to more etc etc, It worked fine. However, after a while I found it will only see the first 293 tracks Artists A to part way thru J as it were- about half of the 600+ on the card. I have gone thru the manual & I'm sorry but I can't find anything with this site search engine but wanted to know if anyone else has had my problem. The manual says you can use up to 32Gb cards, but how? I have not used folders as I wanted the MIX button to access ALL of the music... is this wrong? Help - please!

I've also struggled with this this past weekend...... I got a new 32GB card to replace my 4GB temporary one I've had since I got the car. I made folders for Pop, Rock etc, copied the music into these. Checked the music was there, took it to the car and only some of the folders and music show up. Go back to the computer and the car DELETED everything I could not see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes it deleted everything. Twice this happened and each time it randomly deleted the MP3 files BUT kept the folders yet refused to show any empty folders on the screen!!!!!! Grrr.

On the 4GB card I had all the music in one folder and the mix fucntion worked perfectly. But I now want playlists and hate listening to one artist only album by album. Can't stand not having my playlists.

The Octavia forum has THE threads. This one was in the days before the newer Bolero firmware that solved the speed issues but it has info on folders and other advice:

BUT it talks in a language I can't understand and about making Playlist files as if it is as easy as drinking water........ To me it is not! I would dearly want to export these .m3u playlist files to my SD card but really do not know how! At least it explains (along the way) how the Mix function works.

Finally what class card do you have? I've read here some people have struggled with the Class 10 cards. I thus got a Class 4 card in 32GB size since people said it is plenty fast enough to play music. And it is. Just that at the moment it does not allow me to take ALL my copied music with me! Annoying.

Hi Johann, thanks for the info. I'll look thru your links and see if anything looks likely but my SD card is also Class 4, SD-HC (I think- the No. 4 in front of the SD-HC on the card?) and I used no folders either when it was an badly jumbled mess or when I sorted the names. I originally tried them in album folders but what a faff to get to anything! As far as I was aware the jumbled version could access all 600+ tracks but then again it would be difficult to tell, its just this new 'sorted' list that highlights no access below 'J'. Ho Hum

Well take the card back to your computer and check that the Bolero did not delete everything past J... That is what it did on my card for some reason!!!

The SDcard option on my Yeti seems to work flawlessly, I have converted to MP3 on my Mac with a free(shareware)

program called MAX, the same program I use to make FLAC files for my squeezeboxserver on a miniMac.

The Columbus stereo/navi seems to like 256 better than 320 and I am not able to hear the difference

in quality even with the biggest speaker set. :-)

I have completely filled a 32G card and have not lost any files, or had any problems wiht any files.

I have also transfered around 17G MP3s to the harddisc, works ok, but took a looong time to transfer.

But I have another issue with the system; I got both the cable for iPod and tha cable for USB,

and the stereo do really struggle with MP3s on memorysticks, will not play every file,

and stops frequently half way thru a song?

I have not been able to find out why, have tried small 1Gig sticks and big 64Gig sticks, same problem.

Any suggestions?

cheers

Otto

Well it seems like I was wrong, very wrong

I have two SD cards and when I did a test on card no.2 it had lost a lot

of files, just like others have reported. The big difference between the cards

is that card no.1 has a little switch to lock it, then even the Mighty Snowman

cant erase any files.........
