The mechanic is VW trained and has set up on his own, as the main dealer who he worked for over 15 years closed 3 months ago, but he is not yet VAT registered

That's a bargain price

I go to a local VAG specialist and he charges £100 for that service. That's in London though

I change the oil every 10.000 and that's what I have always used

Is it Vag spec oil? Ie 505.00?

Is it Vag spec oil? Ie 505.00?

Yes possibly, I normally top it up with the same 5 30 from halfords

I always thought it should be fully synth in the diesels? its what i used in my Caddy (same engine as your car)

Yes, should be fully synth.

The 5w30 504/507 VAG spec Halfords stuff is fully synth.

I would check for certain with him, as it won't be particularly good for your engine and turbo, particularly with the mileage already covered.

But apart from that, good price emoticon-0148-yes.gif

i bet he services a lot of fords lol!

Ive just had my cambelt & water pump changed along with a full service. Including oil, filter, air filter, fuel filter & pollen filter.

Brakes were checked too. Car was washed before it was given back to me and all for £300.

I've used this mechanic for years now, and he really knows his stuff. Prior to the service, I asked him if I should supply the oil, as I'm a fussy buggah!

His reply, "It's OK, I'll use the proper PD VW approved oil." Not only did he, he supplied me with a litre of top up oil should I need it!

My argument is that there are some excellent independent mechanics out there. A lot better than the main dealers in my opinion and for a fraction of the price.
