5 brake light mod

Featured Replies

I searched, but it told me I can't use the number 5 in a search? Eh?

Anyways, anyone link me the 5 brake light mod that was on here a couple years back.. or got any info? It hooked the fogs into the brake circuit, didn't it?.. But you HAVE to put some diodes in to stop the fogs lights illuminating the brake light circuit, or the like, didn't ya?

I wanna mod but monies are tight.... This might be cheap as chips!

You mean like this guide?

Questionable legality.... FECK! :'(

Yeah I'd leave this one alone TBH.

IIRC the regs state that you can only have one rear fog active at a time. Perhaps it might be a bit more legal if when you put the fogs on, only the right side illuminates, yet when you brake, both light up.

I'm just trying to figure that wiring out in my head now

Slice a gap into the non legal sides metal trace and it's be like that... wouldn't it?

I'll think of something else... but I'm itching to do sooooomethinggggggggg.

Must be time to think out of the box....

Indicators on as running lights like in the US?

Although I don't agree with the rear fogs lighting up via the brake switch; to correct a previous post regarding more than one rear fog light - I have just copied this info from an MOT inspection sheet.

2. With the rear fog lamp(s) switched on check that:

a. at least one rear fog lamp is securely fitted to the centre or offside of the vehicle.

DB.

I stand corrected.

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum but I'm in the process of taking a transport examination and thought I would read the notes for your reference.. it states.

Rear Lights

The following lights are required to the rear:

  • Two red rear position lamps
  • Two red stop lamps
  • At least one red offside fog lamp
  • Two red outline marker lamps
  • Two amber direction indicators

Hope that helps, but if I'm reading into it I would say there is just a minimum of 2 stop lamps.

I maybe missing the obvious, but how does an outline maker lamp differ from a position lamp?

That maybe more applicable to a commercial vehicle, that or the book they gave me is wrong haha I did think the same though.

Edit: Just a thought they might be the reflectors.

All the US cars I see near US bases on UK plates have this disabled, so guessing not UK legal.

There's a MOT fail in that when the rear fogs are on then your additional stop lamps aren't working. Reason for rejection 1.2.1 d. adversely affected by the operation of any other lamp.

Having 4 X 21 watt bulbs + the high level brake light on isn't going to be too much fun for the person behind you when in a queue, especially when it's dark.

I have seen on some Jaguars 5 watt amber marker lamps in the front clusters.

Outline marker lamps are applicable to class 5 vehicles, which are:

Class 5 Private passenger vehicles, ambulances, motor caravans and dual purpose vehicles with 13 or more passenger seats.

Cripes, 13 passengers, that would be more of a Fabia cruise liner thatn a limo! ;)
