Problems removing rear brake caliper mounting

Featured Replies

Does anyone know what tool is needed to remove the rear brake caliper mounting (not the actual caliper) from a pre-FL '07 Octavia Estate?

They are the C II 41 caliper with Lucus style pads.

I can't get the discs off without removing the caliper mounting and can't work out what tool is needed.

Give yourself plenty of leverage room when undoing these. Believe me, they are mega tight and you'll find it awkward shifting them scrambling under the car with restricted access!.

Thanks for the tip - I'll let people know how I get on when I've got the triple square delivered and had a go at the bolts.

get yourself a Halfords trade club car -- just go and ask for one. You'll get about 40% off the marked price with this, and you'll save pounds on other purchases such as service items, filters, oils, cleaning equipment, wipers, bulbs and all sorts of other stuff they sell.

Great idea and would love one, but I'm not a motor mechanic and have no qualifications. Reading a little about the cards, there is a big discrepancy about who manages to get one. Some people turn up in overalls and are OK, others get the third degree before they reluctantly give one out.

Am I reading out of date information, or are they being quite strict?

Cheaper at amazon

Thanks for the link - these are the ones I ordered off The Bay last night - even cheaper (by a few pence).

Won't expect them to last very long though. But then, as long as I get the job done, it will have been worth a few quid.

Done them today.

Apart from the bolts being very tight and tricky to get loose, almost everything went smoothly.

Did end up buying a caliper rewind tool as off-side piston just wouldn't wind in. Even with the tool it still didn't work initially. Then something seemed to 'give' and it was pretty straight forward from then on.

Didn't have any problems with the near-side though.

Will let them bed in and update their effectiveness on a post here interning EBC brakes & pads.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

Mock up headed paper for a 'new' fake garage and get some business cards from one of those machines that are dotted about. That might be enough.
