EPC, engine light and battery light on during ignition

Featured Replies

I was under the impression that these lights should extinguish when in ignition....they do go away when I start the engine though. Plugged in my autel VAG 405, cleared existing errors and ran it again....no codes were shown. The trio of lights still stay on during ignition. Is this normal?

These lights are on when the ignition is without the engine running. As soon as the engine starts they should extinguish this is how it works. This is normal on all vehicles This is covered in the handbook.

I was told that the battery light should extinguish whilst in ignition before starting the engine...if it doesn't then that's indicative of an inability to hold charge (or something along those lines). I assumed the same applied to the EPC and engine warning light.

You were nearly right about the battery light It is used to indicate the alternator is not charging the battery< so when the engine is not running the alternator is not turning and is not charging the battery. When the engine starts the alternator is running and, if OK, will be charging.
