Hi all,

VAGCOM tells me that my alarm siren (H12) has failed. I tend to believe this as I have never heard a tweek from it in the 3 years I have had it. Can somebody please tell me where I can find the siren itself so I can test it. By the way the car is a CR170 Elegance.

It's mounted by a rivet to the underside of the bodywork below the windscreen, near to the left-hand bonnet hinge. You probably won't see it unless you remove the plenum chamber on the LHS. HTH

i think I see it now with the front end of the plenum cover lifted. Is there a knack to remove the plenum cover ?

You need to remove the rubber bonnet seal (looks like door sealing trim) that runs across the width of the compartment first. It's a push fit onto the bulkhead edge, just gently pull it off.

The plenum cover is in two halves, so if the half you want to remove doesn't have wipers protruding from it, just lever it up and off. Obviously, if wipers need removing, lift up the nut cover(s) and undo the nut(s) holding on the arm(s) as necessary.

removed accordingly. Looks like a new unit is required. The siren is actually bolted to the plate which is riveted to the body work so it's an easy removal,
