Fabia - electrical power failure

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am in the market for a Fabia, yesterday we took one (an 02 16v 1.4 Classic)for a test drive. All was well until we heard a beep (similar to the low fuel level beep), the red battery icon was displayed, all the instruments wound to zero and all the warning lights were displayed, the engine remained running. The most worrying thing was the power steering also failed. We managed to stop safely. Turned off the ignition and restarted the car, problem did not reoccur during the short drive back to the dealer.

The car has just had a new battery (according to the dealer) and just prior to the test drive there was a huge rain storm.

Is this a big problem? The dealer said he would have it checked out. What does the great collective think. Aside from this the car seems to be OK.

cheers

Mark

Losing power steering and the instruments whilst the engine still runs sounds like a CAN-Bus problem. It could be just a bad connection/wire or it could be something more serious.
