What Skoda's next baby car will be based on

Featured Replies

From October VW will start building this AND the new Å koda version. So as a taster here is the VW version pictures released today.

In my view it became bland somehow since the cute concept versions were shown... Not good. I'd still rather sit in this than that hideous crab-car (that is the far too wide) Toyota iQ, but even so this just shouts BEIGE!

I like the interior though. I'm sure every test will moan about the hard plastics (that you never touch after day one) but it looks classy (for the price point). I do wonder if there will be enough fresh air in the thing!? There does not seem to be any decent adjustable central air vents?!

And those model names! I'd be too embarrassed to tell anyone which I got: Take Up!, Move Up! High Up!. Urgh.

Interior is like a Fiat 500 copied by a bloke that doesn't do curves.

Pretty dreary tbh. Lacking in much style. Maybe a bit of an opportunity for Skoda to do something a bit more Funky.

I'm sure it'll sell and I'm sure I'll be stuck behind one soon and the cap wearing coffin dodger driver.

Big vent behind the (optional) sat nav screen.

Not a Fvck Up or a Screw Up more of a What's Up or Stay Up.

hehehe... I like the What's Up!

And yes I saw the vents on TOP of the dash but they really don't look very adjustable and of much use to direct air where it is needed... Especially of you have the optional little screen fitted.

I hope the Skoda version comes out pretty sharpish after October as my mum has recently been contemplating changing from her Subaru Justy. This would be an ideal sized car for her as the Fabia's too large for her requirements.

The price would have to be right of course but I'd hope that Skoda would live up to their enviable record on that front.

Alas no. The factory will start building the VW ones this month (building 130 of them in total) but the SEAT and Škoda versions only starts production in Oct with 175 units each ramping up to 420 units a month in December. The Up only hits showrooms in January and the SEAT and Škoda twins about two to three months after that I'd wager.

I quite like the Up! Quality looks nice on the inside and it looks like it will come with some nice toys too.

It's not clear how similar the Skoda version will be even though they are made in the same factory. The Skoda design boss said it "won't just be different badges and grille like the Aygo/C1/107"

Maybe the Skoda will debut with the 5 door body?

Oh dear....It looks just like a Hyundai i10 with VW badges on it.:giggle:

I like the. . . . red.

Nothing in its favour looks wise IMO. Same bland interior style VW shove in everything they seem to make. The horrid front lights the new/current range has (Golf, Polo, Passat). Too much black on the rear under the window. Don't like the black band around the front grills much either. (Wonder if owners will chrome plate it? :D) Side looks ok-ish I guess.

All my opinion of course.

Wonder how much it costs. . .

So is this the replacement to to Lupo and Arosa? Will we see a warmish version? I quite like it.

Quite like that, wonder what the Skoda version will look like?

Will ther be an Ey Up? For the Geordies?

Any guess on the price? I am hoping Skoda would do one for £6k before any discounts!

Or, it would be amazing but highly impropable to do a totally stipped out one, ie 1 piece seat, most basic audio, plastic bumper, door handle etc for £5k? That'll be good!

I'm guessing at a retail of around 10k...

Cars are priced viz a viz their competitors these days. So check out the Nissan Pixo (a redaged Indian built Suzuki), Toyota Aygo, Pug 107 and Citroën C1 prices and you will know to within about £100 what the Škoda version will cost I'd say. The VW one might be slightly more of course! Though the internet suggest between €8,500 and €9,500. So say £8,000 for the base Up!. (And since the exclamation mark is part of the car's name I guess it is gramatically correct to do a full stop after an exclamation mark?! )

Skoda's "up" will not be at the Frankfurt motorshow apparantly as they don't want to steal VW's thunder. I guess they will just release some photos a bit later.

Instead Skoda's "A-entry" car will be at Frankfurt. A car sized between Fabia and Octavia. It should look like the Vision D concept but with a boot stuck on.

Something that will look like this then:

FFS.

Grey/black plastic everywhere - is it specc'd and designed by a North German Plain stature challenged depressive, trained during the Spanish Inquisition, who's forgotten to take his meds - obviously focus groups like the "Iron maiden" driving position.

Save the planet -do away with dash and central consoles - introduce flappy paddle gearboxes, electric steering, HUD displays on the windscreen and all dashboard functioning kit (That needs to exist) on the other side of the engine bulkhead - More room inside, less cost or TATA as we will be shortly saying over here.

Much prefer this, with say a 200HP unit installed. (Hint):-

The price would really be the key, if it is too close to the base Fabia, I don't see the reason for buying one.

I'd buy the GTI version if it looked like that..with a TSI engine under the bonnet?

If that's the re-invention of the VW bus, I like that very muchly too.
