Second Service

Featured Replies

Just had my second service done at 34,000 miles by Gordon Lamb. Process went well but little evidence that anything has actually been done apart from a tick list- as usual the oil is still as black as can be on the black dip stick. May be my imagination but the whistle from the replacement turbo seems to have gone. Got a new rear badge under warranty and the lumbar support adjustment is reported as being OK. Must check the operation again.

Tyres are about 3.5 mm all round and a set of 4 will be needed for winter.

No mention of brakes pad wear- which is puzzling.

I'm on 50k at 4yr and I'm only now getting comments about the brakes and that's for minor pitting of the discs rather than pad wear. So yours are probably fine so no comment.

I am given to understand that new oil in a diesel car goes black almost immediately due to the residual soot - so nothing to worry about. Mine was clean for about ten miles after the last service.

By co-incidence I was talking to a chap the other day that had just taken his 4 year old 50,000 mile Octavia in for a service before a trip to France. He was fully expecting the brakes to need changing but no, he was told that they were fine.

Diesel oil does go black in no time whatsoever so I don't think that you need worry unduly.

I have 59k miles now on original brakes and got 70k out of pads on my old Hyundai so they obviously make them last better these days, well better than the French anyway, my Scenic went through front pads in 18k.

Had my 2nd service last week at 37k. Cam belt changed and brake fluid change. No issues mechanically, rear tyres had stepped wear. They were being replaced any how as they were the original pair with 3mm left. Swapped out for vredesteins today.

I presume your car is 4 yo to have needed a new cam belt?. All 4 tyres on mine are stepped and this causes a horrid drone when fully laden at max pressures. OK at normal tyre pressures. But renewal before winter

Tyre prices are weird at present. I found four Barums on line on Friday last with Tyre Shopper and the price has gone up £70 since!
