5W-30 dunno where or what brand in the uk you should buy/use. It just has to be VW 504.00/507.00 approved. I use Castrol SLX Professional VW LL III 5W-30.

For my 2.5 TDi, I recently bought 25Ltr of VW504/507 (Morris Oils) off Ebay for less than £100 delivered, a good deal, IMO.

I have heard only good things over the years about Morris oils, might try them one day.

Well worth supporting the company by using their oils, a smallish business based in Shrewsbury. I like giving my business to firms like that.

I only run my cars on well established brands - don't like to experiment, could be too expensive. I always run my cars to fairly high mileages before selling them on.

I also have a 2.5 and at the last service the garage used a long life fully synthetic Valvoline 5w-30. At the next service (very soon - as it's done 13k miles since then) I will be treating it to some Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30 long life oil. This is really the best one you can pour into your car - or certainly one of the best oils for your car.

Having said that, the 2.5 tdi will be tolerant to almost anything you pour into it - unlike the 1.9 tdi which is a lot more sensitive.

The 2.5 can tolerate thicker grades too - I have previously used 10w-40 in the summer. But with winter approaching, stick with the thinner grade as per above.

If you are a DIY servicer, ASDA stock ESP oil regularly and it's only £35 for 5 litres, sometimes even cheaper on special offer.

Alternatively visit GSF, they will have the right oils available for that sort of money.

Quantum oil can be had for under GBP24 / 5l from various online retailers, and it is 5W-40 which is best for both hot summer and cold winter. Before that I used to wait for Halfords offers, on their 505.00/01, also 5W40.

30W oil and VW's camshafts made of (too) mild steel are a bit risky combination when it is really hot, though it is really a consideration outside of UK. I just came from 3500 mile holiday trip, and at 35deg C + 30W oil is perhaps not the best choice.

Since it's always raining in Denmark i have no trouble.
