'Engine Icon' Light continually on

Featured Replies

I have an '06 Octavia 1.9 PDI 105bhp. The Dashboard icon (looks like a side-on view of an engine)has decided to stay lit after the engine is started. Anyone know what this light means and what the problem might be?

I've read the threads about EPC's /CEL's and faulty ECU's but don't know if my 'Engine' icon is one of these or something different.

The manual simply says it means 'Testing engine electronics', which tells me nothing.

Can anyone offer any further info, please?

mbp.

It can mean a number of things, you need the car scanned with either VCDS (many members have this on here) or a dealer can do it also.

As said, there's a number of reasons and causes. You'll need a diagnostic scan in order to know more.

Well, aren't I the lucky one! One of the threads I read suggested driving the car for a while in third gear at about 50mph. I did, and the next time I started the engine the light went out, and has stayed out. I hope that's the end of the matter. Thanks guys.

Probably points to it being a build up of soot/particles then. The 50mph run in 3rd would have given the engine a chance to run higher up the rev range, which would hopefully burn off any build-up.

Worth given the engine a workout at least once a month
