Hi I have a fault on the Octavia radio at the moment after about 1/2 hour the radio switches off,its an intermittant fault and its happened on 2 radios on the same loom in the car, is there a weak spot in the loom/fuse/wiring etc. any thoughts ?

Could it be that the radio is not recognising the ignition switch position sometimes (i.e. faulty ignition live)?

I say this because on my old Escort, you could turn the standard radio on without the keys in but it switched itself off after half an hour to avoid running down the battery. I know the Symphony can similarly be switched on but I don't know if it has a time delay for switching itself off?

You need to check the software coding of the radio with VAG-com. If the coding is incorrect you will see the symptoms you describe.

Tanks for the info but I am hoping it is possably a bad joint someware as the second radio was only a cheap one and when that went faulty I replaced it with the original Skoda 411 CD and they both switched off after a while, must admit the 411 will try and switch back on but then goes off again, the cheap radio could well have been actually faulty and the 411 could have the problems described above.

Check the colours of the wires going to the power supply socket on the radio.

Some radios require the permanent and switch live connections to be reversed to work correctly.

This may have been done for a after market radio to work correctly and will need changing back for the original radio to function correctly.
