MFD2 aux install (keeping cd changer too)

Featured Replies

Hello

I have a 2006 vrs with mfd2 cd Nav. I have the changer in the boot and all works well but I want to be able to plug in another source such as iPod or similar, but also keep my cd changer.

I have seen this on eBay http://bit.ly/owbkbj and wanted to know if this would allow me to keep my cd changer functional but utilise the aux input function and be able to plug in iPod or indeed anything with a 3.5 mm jack? Or does this cable mean I'd be replacing the cd changer input with the 3.5mm jack input?

If you know of any plug and play alternatives to achieve this, then please let me know.

Any info is welcome!

Hi, the MFD2 will accept an AUX socket as well as keeping the boot mounted changer.

If it hasn't already got one fitted, you will need to fit a separate AUX socket so this lead will plug in. There is no direct jack plug input on the front or rear of the MFD2 headunit.

I installed an AUX socket from scratch, mounting it in the box in the centre console when I had my MFD2, and all worked really well. It is literally the socket, and 3 cables that go to a designated place on the back of the head unit. I'll try to find the link to a thread which gives you full instructions how to do this.

The lead on ebay then plugs straight into the socket, and AUX selected from the head unit. The down side to this is that there is no control of the ipod etc from the head unit, it is simply a line-in input, and all control must be done from the ipod itself.

This shows the pin layout of the MFD2 as well as detailing what you need to do to fit the socket.

Hope this helps

Thanks mike.

Just out of interest, when you buy the socket from a dealer does it come with the wiring (from socket to head unit) or are the wires purchased sperately?

Thanks
