Gear Knob Removal

Featured Replies

Have searched this forum for at the answer without success. I am thinking of removing the plastic gear knob and replacing it with a leather one but having removed the gaiter it seems there is a fairly powerful crimped ring holding the old knob on

with no apparent release. I would appreciate advice from anyone who has done this. I know the dealer will do it but I want one from a Czech OEM supplier so I do not feel happy about asking my dealer to do it

Just carefully pry open the crimp - knob should pull off then.

You can re-close the crimp with a pair of pincers. Changed the knob on my previous Golf for a 'golf ball' one
