apparently the troubles Im having might be solved by unplugging an EGR electric plug, disabling it I presume... any ideas where Id find said plug and what it looks like?

If it's anything like the Fabia vRS EGR valve you have to disable it via Vagcom.

I don't think it can be disabled via VAG-COM, but you can turn it down to the lowest setting which means there is minimal exhaust gas recirculation. Disconnecting is a question of removing a vacuum pipe and blocking it off I think - seem to remember seeing a thread on it on Cupranet - but VAG-COM would be the easier and cleaner way of doing it if you can find someone with a cable..........

Sorry Chris yes you are right you can turn it down but not disable via vagcom.

Just out of interest why do you want to turn it off ? It helps with lower engine temperatures and emissions.
