Octavia Mk1 Retrofit alarm

Featured Replies

Good evening all,

Just bought a 2004 Octavia Mk1 L&K estate off my boss, and as I have read, and you already know, no alarm just an immobilizer :(

Is there a retrofit kit for the factory optional alarm available?

I mainly just want it to beep when I lock and unlock it!!

I have dug out the vag-com and turned the beep bytes to 1, just in case, but it obviously needs the sounder from the alarm.

What parts would I need and from what VAG cars could I salvage them from to get basic functionality?

Thanks

James

It's technically against European law for a car to beep on lock and unlock. Something to do with noise pollution. You'd be mega unlucky to be jailed/fined for it though :D

I'm not sure it's worth going to the effort of installing an alarm just to get a beep with remote lock and unlock.

Thanks for that anewman.

I'm confused though, if its illegal, how come they can sell it as an option on after market alarms, and I'm sure most cars I've had with a factory alarm has beeped(although my last new modern cars were a 52 plate MGZR and an 04 plate Freelander(which I will state for the record, STAY AWAY, biggest pile of ****, the first generation and 1st gen face lift Freelander), although probably a new thing, silly EU!

OK, different tact everyone, can I design a beeping circuit(good old GCSE electronics!!), and hook it into a pin somewhere, so when I press the button to unlock or lock it sends a +ve signal to some kind of flip flop circuit, which will beep once or twice. All I really need is a feed location for lock and unlock, the rest is easy!

Even just one feed for both will do, as the flip flop will remember how many beeps it did last and do the opposite.

I only want to hear its locked, so I don't get half way up to my flat and query myself if I actually locked it, and have to go all the way back to make sure! I'm only 33, and I'm sure my memory is going already!

Thanks again

James
