Weird noise when turning right

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Not sure if this is a wheel bearing problem but my 04 octavia is making a whirring / whining noise whilst cornering right especially on round abouts and on a long trip. I also notice the noise whilst pulling away for the first time when the car has been parked, but just for a second, then it goes quiet. Any ideas??

Had similar a year ago on my 2004 octy ,especial when on full stearing lock , it was the Alternator Pulley , had the pulley , as it is a seperate item to the Alternator , and new belt fitted . problem solved . May be worth checking .

I will mention it to the garage, thanks!

I can't see why the alternator pulley would only make a noise when turning in one direction. I can agree with a noise when pulling off, but it would start of life as a bit of a groan, and when left for about 6 months (15k miles) then shear off...

However I would wonder if a wheel bearing was more likely to be the cause of the problems. If when cornering right, that would indicate the left one needed attention. If it is a rear, then I happen to have a spare one in the boot of my car
