Octavia Mk 2 second best car of the decade - According to Autoexpress UK

Beaten by 0.05% by the Jaguar XF.

Since the XF is British and there might be just a bit of bias for a UK manufacturer I think this is fantastic result validating the excellent performance, reliability and value of the Octavia Mk 2, set up by the excellent Mark 1 and the efforts of the Skoda delearship network.

The XF is a lovely car but at over £30K, plus a saloon, ie how to get that large item in to the car, suppose you can afford to have delivered. Only OK engines but the do get the fantastic 8 speed ZF boxes which makes good in to great.

Octy2 scoring 9th on performance and biuld quality (Japanese take all top 10 relaiblity) and 5th in running costs and practicality.

And Skoda take second as a manufacturer after Lexus.

Best reasonably priced car if XF is not counted as being in the luxury bracket.

But what is the replacement chasis and what new engines (1.4 TSI with cylinder cut out etc?) to maintain this position?

It's amazing that Skoda is now a serious consideration by many looking for a new car.

It's also worth noting how often it beats other VAG stablemates in these surveys in almost every category!

The Yeti had not been out long enough but was given a special mention under "The Weird and the Wonderful".

Chelsea Tractors do not usually do very well in these surveys although the Discovery3 (took 5th overall) and Lexus RX (took 3rd overall).

Of course fuel prices have gone up a lot in the last year so cars with high running costs ie low fuel consumption are likely to take a hit going forward and the Octavia scores well in most catergories rather than just a few.

Qashqai scored 10th overall and I would expect the Yeti to be there about as in some road test the Qashqai has come out ahead of the Yeti.

The engines are awesome in the XF's and the XJ's. Especially the Diesels.
