Any ideas what this is called/part number?

Featured Replies

Sorry for double posting this here and in the stickied part numbers thread but does anyone have any idea what this part is called and part number. Mine has come loose and rattles like hell and its not just a case of tightening it back up by the looks of things.

Its the plate on the bottom of the exhaust under my vrs 2003.

Hi there I answered this for you in Part number thread.

But here you go ..

That part hanging is the cat heat shield. Item # 8 in this pic

P/N 7M3253243.

Probably the bolt has snapped holding it to the bracket. They snap under heat exposure.

Hope this helps

Thanks guys, you are stars :)

Yep, it is loose at the back but still secured tightly with the bolt (it has some little clip like hang on design crap at the back that seem to have slowly deteriorated). I will check out securing it instead of replacing it and see how that goes ;)

Mine is exactly the same, although it has not got to the point where those back clips have deteriorated enough to make it loose, but I noticed they were well on their way, so I put on 2 of those bands as in the ebay link as I had a couple spare in my garage.

If you are friendly with a local garage you may be able to ask nicely & get them for free.

Another option is; you might find they are supplied in a CV boot kit, it may be cheaper to just buy the cheapest boot kit for any random car, just to get the bands.

They have to be the correct type though, the type which you thread the end through the loop, fold over on itself when tight, then press in the side tabs to double secure.

Or just remove the crappy heat shield anyway. I did this for a few guys on here. Stops all that clattering the.
