Revo Remap

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just picked up my Fabia VRS and already love it but cant help but wonder how much better the performance could be if i went down the remap route. A garage 2 mins down the road is a 'Revo' dealer which is only charging £200 plus VAT on a special offer. Now i know i dont need a custom map as i won't be doing anything else to my car performace wise so wanted a few reviews from you guys with standard VRS that have used REVO. I've used the search function and some replys are good but some say that the revo map isnt as good as jabba or shark.. was wondering why ??

Thanks

Apas the REVO map very harsh :S but i found that either Unit 18's map or Sharks remap the favourite on here

From what I know of Revo's petrol maps on friends' 1.8Ts, the main difference between Revo and other maps is that Revo is far more aggressive. It'll pin you back into your seat and then tail off, whereas other maps offer smooth power delivery to the redline. I'm told that carries over to their diesel tuning as well, although I don't know anyone running Revo on a PD130 vRS personally.

Thanks for that, soo if its more harsh in the power delivery is it more likely to burn your clutch out quicker or turbo etc than a map that delivers it more smoothly or is it just personal preference in power delivery?? I realise itll depend on your driving style.

Thank you.

Adam

People have said Revo is a clutch killer on PD150 Leons, they map to 190 or so and around 320-330lb/ft. I don't know what clutch is in the vRS as standard though, if it's the same one as the Leon has then I'd say you'd be OK and just under the 300lb/ft limit. In general though, yes, a harsher map will be worse for your clutch. Turbo I dunno, but I don't think any generic stage 1 map would push a turbo to its limits anyway. Having said that, the KKK turbo on the Fabia isn't widely regarded as reliable even at stock levels.

Cheers, yeah i've just been reading about peoples turbos going early! Sounds expensive! Luckily ive got 12 months warranty on it, so if anything is to go on it im covered. Have to think long n hard about it :)

Thanks again for the info.

I have the 170bhp REVO remap on a standard clutch and think its great. Sure the clutch will go if you drive like a tit and drag race from every set of lights but I don't and quite like having a clean licence. Theres a lot of choice out there, I personally wouldn't travel to get a remap, (REVO mapper is 5 miles away) as long as its from a good company and you like the REVO chap then go for it. It has the REVO 3.5k power spike which might be the 'harsh' bit people are talking about.

Seems silly to have a generic remap when for the same price you can have a custom one. Unit 18 or shark map will result in a batter driving car, and the ability to choose how you want the map, its not just about what mods you have done.

Thanks pal, yeah i like a clean license too and in a diesel its pointless in flooring it from the lights really, you need to be in 2nd or 3rd to really use the power to accelerate. A mate of mine who works at VW knows the two owners of Autotechnica in Hull, they used to be Audia master tech's so hopefully should know what they are doing. I may pop down tomorrow and see how they are etc. And dont mean to sound dumb but what is a power spike? Is that when it really starts to shift or is it when it hits a brick wall because you need to change gear?

Cheers.

Adam

The power spike is when the 'woosh' of power gets delivered, the point being that it wont batter you clutch at those revs. My local chap offered a 7 day, might have been 14 day trial so you have nothing to lose. Don't like it, you get it wiped off and you get a refund. Cant say fairer than that. It might be a generic remap but my guy did tweak it so its not as generic as a tuning box like a Dragon system. Let me know what you think if you get it.

Revo used to do free 5 hour trials, but I don't think they do anymore.

Search for the thread called shark performance remap, some good points to be had in there worth a read

Cheers yes i suppose it makes sense to have the 'spike' at those revs.. i will let you know olly. :) Yeah ive read that they did offer 24 hour trials, if not i'll try and talk my way into one, worth a try. Thanks again.

Adam

No harm in having a s

No harm in having a sPike at those revs :)

whats the point in having a really aggressive map in a FWD car. You mk1 vRS guys already have ALOT of torque to contend with, so why you would want to get the most aggressive map and delivery (ie revo) to over power you front wheels is beyond me.

Your better off with a smoother, more progressive and less aggressive map, that allows you to gain and/or maintain traction quicker. Nothing is more frustrating than getting spanked by a less powerful car because you wheels just spin away the power, or you wary of your clutch disintegrating.

I have Revo remap :) check out my build thread for print out

I had an aggressive map on mine when i bought the car. Got it remapped by shark and it is soo much better. The old map just caused a lot of wheel spin and was hopeless in the wet.

Have the revo map, pulls well had it since 70k and I'm now on 111k, no issues at all, i swear people don't look after their cars...

Thanks for all the replies, im now getting a Shark remap done on 15th September :) I managed to get it at the discounted rate of £150, bargain! It wasn't just the price that swayed me to get a Shark map, the reviews are all good if not excellent for shark whereas the Revo reviews are a mixture. I know its all down to personal preference, but hopefully i'll be having a very happy drive home come lunch time a week on Thursday!!

Adam

You will enjoy the Shark remap, I know I am
