Lumpy Idle & Low RPM Flat Spot

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I think I may have found an answer to this on here already, I found a similar thread for a Fabia, but I would like to double check before getting carried with my debit card and spanners :)

I've just bought a W plated Octavia Auto Est 2.0 SLX, it was pretty cheap and has a few 'niggles' which I can't really moan about, the car was less than £700 :|

The biggy is the lumpy idle and the flat spot at low RPM when pulling away. Having read the Fabia thread just now this could possibly be caused by the Coolant Temp Sensor maybe? (Engine Temp on the Dash shows permanently cold...). Up until reading this I was thinking it could be the Coil Pack as I had similar symptoms on my old Mk3 Golf VR6.

I also need to change the Aux Drive Belt and its tensioner pully (sounds like the bearings are shot), is there a special tool required for that or is there a handy cheat ;p

Any advice would be very welcome, thanks :)

Paul

Change the coolant temp sensor. Genuine VAG CTS is best as the cheap ebay one's usually don't work for long.

Swapped with a new CTS from my local GSF shop. Problem sorted.

Nice easy job too for a Monday evening on the drive in the rain, 2 clips and it was done!

Thank You :D
