Need New Front Bushes

Featured Replies

For a while now the car has been been juddering when I braked and since I had new brakes fitted in March I thought it was the brakes.Took the car back to the bloke who fitted the brakes and he said I need new bushes. He told me the job would take about 2 hours and need to remove the front suspension and this would cost £130 all in,is this a good price?. he showed me a bush and looking on the net it looks like a front axle bush is what I need.

depends which bushes, if he's just fitting replacement ones, they will cost a few quid each, so about £120 of the £130 charge will be labour,

for an indpendant garage thats quite alot for a job that if all goes smoothly shouldn't take more than an hour.

The wishbone bushes can be changed with the suspension on the car unless they need to be pressed out.

My local garage that is absolutely fantastic would quote me me 2hours labour for this job too, but they only charge £33per hour cash. i would expect to hand over £50 to them for the job as i send them alot of business.

See if your garage will accept £100 cash.

depending on where you live and what kind of service you get some people on here would argue £130 is the going rate foor that job.

personally, anyone quoting around £80-90 for the job would be very reasonable. have a shop around.

and what if changing the bush doesn't stop the judder.... did the mechanic inspect the bushes under the car visually, or just said it might be that.

best be doubly sure before you chuck anymore money at the brake judder issue

He took the wheels off to check the brakes and he saw they were knackered.

If he insists on unbolting the subframe the car will need re-tracking afterwards.

The rear console bushes can be changed fairly easily on a ramp without unbolting the subframe and when replacing the rear bushes it's worth replacing the fronts too, the bushes are relatively cheap.

If you wish to have the same quiet comfort level in the car, I suggest using the Skoda standard OEM bushes as bought from a Skoda dealer.

Good thinking about replacing the front ones at the same time.

Took the car to a top Independent garage here in Bradford and they checked the bushes and could not find a fault with them but the newly fitted brakes ( In March ) was warped. Will be getting new brakes hopefully under the warranty.
