What engine oil should I use for my Fabia vRS?

You must use an oil which meets specification VW 505 01. The following oils are approved to that specification:

BP Special Visco V 5W-40 (fully synthetic)

Castrol GTD 505 01 5W-40

DEA Ultec Diesel SAE 5W-40

Delphi Prestige Diesel Plus 5W-40 (synthetic-based)

Esso 505 01 5W-40

Fuchs Titan Supersyn SL PD SAE 5W-40 (fully synthetic)

Granville Topaz Diesel 5W-40 (semi-synthetic)

Madit 505 01

Migrol Special S-Plus

Millers XFE-PD SAE 5W-40 (semi-synthetic)

Motul 6100 5W-40

OMV syn com diesel

Q8 Formula Excel 5w40 (fully synthetic)

Shell Helix Diesel Plus VA 5W-40 (semi-synthetic)

VAG-branded 505 01 505 00 High Lubricity Engine Oil 5W-40 - G 052 167 A2

Valvoline DuraBlend Diesel SAE 5W-40 (semi-synthetic)

wow finally a Fabia driver that a: read DGW's informative posts... AND user the tinterweb!

assume many of those are not UK products.... but then some of our users are not UK based....

aixlad I challenge you to find any of those vw505.01 spec. oils anywhere other than at your local VAG retailer :(

Millers seems to be the only brand which has any sort of distribution in The UK, even so retail distributors seem to be few and far between.

Role on the new VAG oil specs.

For those interested in changing their Engine Oil and Filter (I always do this every 5,000 miles) -

I agree, Firma Bezeichnung SAE-Klasse, Hunold Synt PDI SAE 5W-40 or Ravensberger Schmierstoffvertrieb Ravenol VPD may be difficult to obtain, however, most towns and cities have numerous ESSO, Mobil, Chevron, Total, Elf, Kuwait and Shell outlets who could possibly obtain their branded 505.01 oil for you, and Castrol and Valvoline are household names who will have distributors. You just need to look around, it will save you

Can't be arsed to hunt for my earlier post about it myself, but if you know of a Q8 petrol station in your area they sell 505.01 oil in there for about

Also, I intend to change oil between service intervals as I have always found it to be of benefit on turbocharged cars. I used to do it on the nissan every 3-4k. What sort of intervals do people on here change it at? And, lastly and most strangely, if it's a cartridge type filter rather than a sealed unit, is there a steel surface inside it to which a strong magnet could be mounted?

Its a paper element, and the housing is all aluminium.

Out of interest, has anyone ever bought 505.01 oil from a Ford dealer? Some versions of the Galaxy are fitted with VAG pdi engines so will require this oil.

No 's' on the front of them part numbers normally. I believe you got the from Pillings? If so they add the S for Skoda as they book both 'M'azda and 'S'koda parts out on the same system. I asked about it when I ordered some parts before.

Correct :) , Pillings in MK. I took these numbers straight off the invoice.

Oh yeah, one more question, does the sump plug have any new fangled releasing key or is it a standard socket set jobbie?

Ah, found my old post...

Frustratingly, I did an oil change on Saturday. I only had 4L so ended up trekking to my local VW garage and paying
If 5L of PD oil costs

It shouldn't be either - they will have the massive 20 gallon (or whatever it is) drums of it - but I think they charge about
