Vrs ecu swapping

Featured Replies

Hi all, my and my friend are wondering if it's possible to swap ecus between our cars. Mines a 2005 mk1 vrs and his a 2004 mk1 vrs. The reason we'd like to try is I want my car remapped which has had done a short while ago but it has since made his LPG conversion a nightmare to use. So instead of paying to have the map removed he offered a swap if it's possible. What else would we need to interchange besides the ecu and the coded chip part of the keys? Any help would be great. Thanks.

You need to get the ecu re-coded to the instrument cluster to make the immobliser happy, and then you should be OK AFAIK.

I take it that's a main dealer only type thing? I have access to a vag com so all I need is the code to do it myself I'm guessing.

YOu can do it with a registered version of vagcom, but I think there's a code you need to extract from the old ECU. SKC Code perhaps?

I'll give main dealers a ring and see what they say. Hopefully it won't to be to hard to do.

You will need the 4 digit SKU for your car in order to complete the swap, then its just a case of coding the immo and pairing the cluster to the ecu. The code is on a plastic loop that was supplied to the original owner when the car was new, if that is now lost then you'll need a dealer.

... made his LPG conversion a nightmare to use...

tbh it sounds like not a great map. Their are other members on here who've been using LPG for a while, with remaps iirc.

I'd be telling your mate to go back o the re-mapper and fix the issue - free of charge.

I'm assuming from your post, that he had the LPG installed first, then had a remap done ?

ps an outfit like Shark or R-Tech can extract the SKC from your ECU. You'll have to post the ECU(s) of to them.

Cheers snow muncher, he bought the car with LPG already fitted then got a postal remap by more-bhp. We we're just gonna try swapping then over to save money all round.
