Has any body fitted these themselves to the car and are they easy and are drop links required

tom

Not fitted these, but fitted AP's which are v. similar.

Easy if you can use a spanner. You'll also need an M14 spline-bit for the hub clamp.

Some people say you need a hub spreader, but a 7mm flat head screwdriver bit will do the same job if you have enough finesse about it; that and don't be afraid to hit your hubs with hammers...

Rears are easy.

Get tracking done after fitting, thus a £150+ fitting job becomes £30.

You won't need drop links as AP's/Weitec's/KW's have raised wings allowing use of original links for all but the most extremes of slammage.

whats the reasoning for the splitting the hub?

To get the old damper out easier. And get the newer one in easier too.

You can also use a chisel to split the hub, I'd suggest disconnecting the FARB drop links and track rod ends first, compressing the spring and undoing the top mounts. This should give the hub enough room to swivel more allowing you better access to the hub clamp. Once its split don't be afraid to use a hammer to knock the struts out. I also cut off/ knocked off the bit at the back of the strut which made it easier to remove the strut.

Should also mention I needed to replace my track rod ends because the top's of mine were completely rusted and resulted in me having to cut the nut off with a hacksaw. Might be worth having a look and seeing if you'll need to replace yours aswell. IIRC only cost me £19 for the pair.

Hope this helps

Why undo the track rods anyway?

Why undo the track rods anyway?

Because if you don't your damper will still be attached to the car...

Really? It hasn't on any of these I've worked on?

Sorry, dyslexia strikes again, I read that as drop links, yeah, why would you remove track rods?
