Cruise Control on Octavia 2007

Featured Replies

I have a Skoda Octavia Elegance Estate TLD 2007 and have an intermitant fault with the Cruise Conrol cutting out. I have narrowed it down to it happening more frequently when either the engine has been running for a long time and or the weather is hot. It seems to come back to life when everything cools down. The brake lights work OK. Any thoughts please?

Have a search on this site. I have read previously that there is a common problem with the contacts in the cruise control switch on these cars. I am sure someone has previously posted a how to on cleaning the contacts up to stop this happening.

Yes quite recently, it linked to a Seat/VW page with a picture guide on cleaning the contacts.

I've an 07 Octy with a similar problem, not had the time to try the fix yet.

I had exactly the same problem and this fixed it, for about a year, then it happened again, but quickly resolved again. The contacts just wear down and get dirty, a replacement unit would probably solve it but why spend money when a bit of DIY will do the trick?

Thanks everyone for your responses.

I went onto the site, translated it with Google, followed the instructions and now my cruise control is working OK but early days.

It's quite easy to prize off the side of the CC stalk with a very small screwdriver and the switch virtually fall out. Unplugged it and then was able to dismantle it. The two small retaining screws have torx heads so if you don't have that type of screwdriver a small watchmakers screwdriver works OK. There is no need to dismantle the on/off switch.

I then cleaned all the ponts with Maplins Electrical Solvent Cleaner on a cotton bud. Job done!!
