Yesterday was driving home from work in snow/rain and for some reason the wipers stopped working :(

Managed to get off the dual carriage way safely but unfortunately I hit a dog :( It did get up and run off though!

When I looked it had blown the fuse and the dealer said it had just happened to his vRS :confused:

Seems like that fuse is bl*dy sensitive and borderline. IMHO it is too borderline to use...

It also goes apparently when you try and use the spray with a frozen-up sprayer supply :(

Fuse 15 iirc, blows when wipers are frozen to the screen.

I had the same problem when i was skiing in austria, i asked for some spare fusesa from the garage and they gave me about 35 different fuses which are now all waiting patiently in the car in case another one goes.

The key bit I would like to know is whether this also happens when the wipers are NOT frozen to the windscreen. Fair enough if they were frozen up, but it shouldn't happen if they were not.

Thats the funny thing, id left work and they were working fine, over took a lorry and the spray hit the windscreen! It was at this point they stopped working :(

Hmm - seems like a safety issue to me. I'm wondering if the fuse is just a little underrated, or 'too fast' - Fair enough if you are doing a wipe of 'wipin' when they're frozen up, but when you just use them that's just dangerous imho :|

when looking into buying a fabia I read that wiper fuses do blow quite easily and that dealers can supply/fit stronger ones . . . .

If they are allowed to fit higher rates fuses by Skoda UK without voiding warranty on the motors then that's a little strange - after all they should be fitted with the correct ones in the first place?

The fuse blows because the washer fluid is frozen when you are using the washers, also it happens to protect the wiper circuit as well (nice design!). When the Fabia first came out it had a 5A fuse, when fuse blowing in cold weather beacme apparent replacement with a 10A fuse was advised. The way I see it if you fit a higher rated fuse and the wiring goes up in flames it cant be anyone elses fault except for your own - the best way to prevent this is to use a higher concentration of washer fluid to stop it freezing in the first place. Also the position of the washer bottle doesn't help right at the front behind the bumper.

If the dealer advises to fit a 10A fuse it's their problem if the wiring goes IMHO, beyond that I totally agree with your post
