Camshaft timing (1.6 AEE) - Need help urgently

Hi guys

Swapping the engine on my Octavia 1.6 '97 (engine code AEE). I suspect there's something wrong with the timing on the "new" engine, but I can't figure out how to align the camshaft with TDC (no1 cylinder). I don't see any obvious marks on inner timing belt cover or on the camshaft sprocket. I have a Haynes manual but all I can find about the AEE is some thing about aligning the rotor (ignition) with the distributor cap. Is this really how to do it? Doesn't seem very accurate to me..
