advanced motorists? insurance options

Featured Replies

im new to the forum and im looking for some advise

im basically looking to become an advanced motorist after nearly 25 years of driving

my question is, there really any point anymore?

insurance seems the same and to be honest thats the only real upside i see..

The only time when these work is for newly qualified drivers. The pass plus/ advanced driving course actually knocked £400 off my first years premium. Not only did it do this but the extra experience that it gave me was definitely great.

I did a motorcycle advanced course with the IAM last year, it's not made any difference at all to my insurance.

I'd have to back this up. Did the car version over 10 years ago and never once have I had money off. PassPlus wasn't around when I passed so no comments on that. What I do know though is that on my commute from Hereford to Dudley cross country (Leominster, Tenbury, Clows Top, Kiddy and up the 449) I shaved best part of 20 mins off the route after training in my little Pug 106 1.1 Smiles all the way!

I'm now looking at the ROSPA driving test as a new challenge. Be keen to hear any views on whether this is worthwhile.

I'm a IAM member, and got quotes for my recent purchase (Octavia VRS).

IAM do their own insurance (IAM Surety), but in my case I got much cheaper insurance elsewhere (actually nearly £200.00 per year cheaper). Many insurers, including the one I went with, did not have any interest in me having passed the Advanced Driving test.

However, I strongly recommend doing this - it only costs £139.00 and some of your time. And I thought I knew how to drive...

IAM Surety is around £200 cheaper than anyone else i can get a price on. Also they do family discount so my other half is with them as last year they were £120 cheaper than the next cheapest quote.

Best of all, i did the test when the IAM course was only £75!!

That's interesting - I bet you're younger than me!

29 next week!

Paid £550 this year (was £420 last year :'( ).

Also IAM openly admit to beat any price so its  from me.

Oops! I'm definitely significantly older.

'Skills for life' cost me £ 89.00.

IAM Surety were unable to match my current insurer.
