Winter Tyre Questions

Featured Replies

I have a Mazda 6 Sport which ran on 18" Alloys with 225/45/R18 91W tyres, I also used 16" Steel wheels with winter tyres which were 205/60/R16 92T. Now I am assuming that these will be OK to work with the 61 plate VRS Diesel that I am picking up in November.

Can someone in the know confirm whether this is the case, or do I need to get different size tyres. I am not going to use snow chains as I will be going nowhere near mountains that make them compulsory.

Thanks in advance.

The vRS runs 225/40/18 as standard, so for 16" rims you should run 205/55/16 tyres (the size that Skoda fits to the optional spare).

You say I should run 205/55/16, but will there be any problems with the 205/60/16 that I have?

using this tyre calculator the difference from 225/40/18 is as follows;

Tyre code Diameter Circumference Difference

---------- -------- ------------- ----------

205/55 R16 632 mm 1985 mm -0.83 %

205/60 R16 652 mm 2048 mm 2.39 %

The 205/60/16 would give you slightly higher gearing, but I doubt that you'd have any clearance issues if your car isn't lowered. The only thing I'd add is that given 205/60/16 isn't approved by Skoda your insurers might not like the idea.

Thanks again for the reply. Not what I wanted to hear though :(

Does the Mazda 6 steel wheels fit the Octy - I get the feeling they may be a couple of mm out on the PCD spacing?
