Cold air from right Vents only

Featured Replies

Hi,

Has anyone ever had an issue where cold air is only coming out of the right hand vents. No matter what I try I can only get chilly air from that side of the car.

The other side is ambient temps. Hot works ok evenly through both sides.

Air Con appears to work, VAG COM suggests pressure reaches 9 bar before the rad fans kick in. Compressor is spinning.

I did have an error code saying intermittent air con pressure low. Perhaps it needs a regas? Why do I get cold air from one side of the car though?

Thanks for any advice!

Steve - CCM done and dusted - posted an update in the thread.

Whilst I was hooked up to VCDS at Mike's I checked this out and go into the HVAC module and select the output tests. Run them one by one - you have to keep clicking start or next, but you can leave each particular flap running for a minute and see it moving between the 2 extremes. From memory it shows 4 values - current value, target value, min value and max value. What it will do is keep cycling the target value between the min and max values and you can see the actual value. It will make sense (honest) when you see it in action. I did this and left the Centre Flap one running for a while and it seems to have learned the new min and max values so no longer thinks it is getting stuck, or it has just freed something up. Anyway, no more error codes about a sticking flap motor and no more odd clicking noises.

Try this tip from Andy, originally posted to cure the climatronic system from clicking. But running the function test may stir something into life. It will show the values for each flap, so if the left is dead at least it will tell you.

Tried a climate control reset (econ and face button together) and no difference.

Can get hot and ambient temps out of either vents, which suggests the motors are working ok.

Just no air con chilled air from left vent.

Thanks man. Been through VCDS and can see motor values changing ok.

Will give this a go though!

Been through the tests in Vag Com, and nothing much happens, though all the values seem to cycle through the various tests.

Any more ideas chaps?

Cheers!

By way of an update it seem there is less air flow coming from the left hand vents too. Suggests a flap maybe?

Are they easy to reach?

Will get a regas and see if that helps.

FYI - Proper regas has seemed to have sorted this. 0.05 removed and 0.525 put back in. Cold air now from both vents. VCDS says 1 degree from both sides!

Also, the hissing, gurgling noise from inside the car has now gone.

Why I had cold air coming from one side, who knows, perhaps the remaining gas only cooled the part of the matrix that vented to the drivers side.

Touch wood that was all that's needed!

Could be useful for others.

That's good to know. Who did the regas? Main dealer of Aircon agent? and may I ask at what sort of price?

Had it done at a local independent garage (tis brill to find one you can trust!). £45 pictures of the queen for a removal and regas. I did have mine done in Feb of this year by Kwik Fit but I have to admit the aircon was noisy since then! I have a feeling they didn't fill it properly.

Won't be going back there!!

Well mine turned out to be a rotten air con rad. It was corroded at the bottom. In the end I had a new rad/condenser and dryer and touch wood has been fine since. Gurgling did seem to indicate lowish gas/pressure.
