Installing LED bootlight

Featured Replies

Hi! :)

I think the bootlight in a Roomster is not so good.

Thinking about installing a LED bulb, also for the looks of it.

Does anybody know wich kind of bulb will fit in this assy?

I know it is a W5W T10, but there are many LED's in different shapes out there.

Thanks!

You might want to take a look at this. I have one of those, and it's working great. The clips that hold the bulb in place makes it really hard to find any suitable led bulbs.

Thanks for your reply!

I know about this unit, but I was hoping to solve it in a cheaper way.

Have you tried to find a suitable led buld? :)

I've been searching quite a lot for LED replacements actually, and currently I have replaced the rear "driving lights" (parking lights, side lights, whatever they may be called) and the interior lights with LEDs, but I have not seen a LED that would fit in this housing - they all look the same.

And the problem with this fitment is that the LEDs emit light in only one directions, so you would need to find a LED bulb that

- fits in the housing

- have a lot of leds on one side only

so I think you will have to go for the Superskoda replacement unit one if you want more light in your boot. And it is really good!

I understand, thanks! :)

I'm doing led upgrade to my whole car as well.

Do you mind posting pictures of your bulbes installed? (Maybe in a new thread) :)

There's not really much to post since the bulbs are not visible, and the extra light will not anyway be caught on photo.

An update to my led update project: on Monday I received the latest shipment from Hids-Direct.co.uk. I had ordered a set of Amber flash leds and a set of white to be used as DLRs - both canbus/error free according to all documentation. The white ones work well as DLRs (maybe a bit on the blue side, but definately LEDs!), but the amber ones (PY21W) did cause a broken bulb alert.

Edit: when looking at the car from a distance the DLRs don't seem too blue at all, and here is a (somewhat lousy) image of how it looks. Unfortunately I don't have an image with the original bulbs. I have also turned off the sidelights with DRL with the VCDS-

Look at this LED:

Super Bright T10 4 SMD LED 5050 Auto Car Canbus Light Lamp

That's exactly the type you want, the lights are the same in the Roomster Yeti and Superb II (so probable Fabia II and Octavia II as well)

I am using them in my Superb without issue, 5050 SMD's are the brightest you can get, the only slight problem you may have is my pcb touched the metal casing and kept of blowing the fuse, so I left the casing off - not really needed ayway as the SMD's run MUCH cooler and there should be no water in that area either.

I actually took the shortcut and bought it at Superskoda. At first, it seemed it would not fit perfectly because of the bulkier metal casing, connector-side. With some care, it fits rather perfectly and the resulting light is really impressing!

I had thought of also replacing the dome lights in the cabin, but I noticed LED light is very strong and now I do not know if I really want such a strong light over my head. Of course it is perfect for a bootlight.

For the interior lights any LED bulbs with the correct fitting can be used, and you can get as little or as much light as you want-these don't have to be canbus.
