Parking sensor bracket question

Featured Replies

I'm going to retro fit front & rear parking sensors to my pre-FL Octavia II estate and have purchased a complete kit cheap.

The whole kit looks great - seems to have everything that is needed, but I have an issue with the brackets / collars that hold the sensors.

I was told that this kit was for pre-FL Octavias, but it turns out that the parts that hold the sensors are for the FL version. The pre-FL ones should have a collar around the sensor (1Z5 919 491 A), the FL ones don't (1Z0 919 491 E or 5J6 919 491B, as I have on the rear ones - the only difference seems to be that the 5J6 ones have two tabs at the top of the bracket as opposed to one on the 1Z0!).

FL ones need an 18mm hole as there is no bracket / collar, the pre-FL ones need 21mm (I believe) to accept the collar which is visible externally.

Two questions:

Is it possible to fit the FL sensor brackets to a pre-FL vehicle without using the collars?

If not, what is the reason that it cannot be done?

Thanks to anyone who knows the answers and can give more info on whether it is possible or whether there will be problems in the future.

Sent an email to my local Skoda dealer in Worcester thus morning and had a very helpful call back this afternoon from one of their technicians.

Initially I though it was going to unproductive when he said that he could not find reference to the part numbers I had given (see above post) in his system.

However...

It seems the collars were only used on pre-FL Octavias if they had parking sensors factory fitted.

The aftermarket kits like the one I have, do not use collars, they have an 'interference fit' into an 18mm hole in the bumper.

Good news with bonus: I don't have to spend any more money & I get the subtle look I was after.

He also confirmed that if fitting front & rear sensor kits, the buzzers should be located in the rear left quarter panel and above the drivers feet.

This now clears up all my questions on fitting the sensors, so it's time to get on and do it (when it stops raining).

Where did you get the kit from? thinking of getting a rear set for mine but would have to be OEM for me :thumbup:

I got mine from a guy who couldn't sell the front & rear set on eBay! Made him an offer (which he almost accepted) and got complete kit cheap.

Judging from the packaging, I think it came from Skodateile.cz, but they don't have the complete kit listed at the moment.

Skoda-parts.cz do though, but I don't think it came from there.

Sorry I can't be more definite about this for you.

Ah right, no problem thanks for the info anyway

Not sure about using skoda-parts though, a guy on an irish VAG forum had an order "go missing" and then a replacement order not turn up after 4 months so i might give them a miss :wonder:

Skodateile.cz certainly seem to me recommended on this form as much as any other foreign supplier.

You can't say the same about Skoda-parts though.
