Sorry English is not my first language ;) so my grammer may not be the best , that may be the understatement of the decade!, 2 ps3's 1 is an import from japan & the other (sons) is an uk one, the Japanese one had the new hardrive put in 620gb seagate sata and the data in sons hardrive was transferred onto the jap one, the data did transfer as sons data was visible on screen, the hardrive was then removed from the jap one and put into. Sons, error on screen " not correct " hardrive in system, so we think it's a compatibility problem with the ps3 ?, the jap one can use all hardrives but sons will not read either the hardrive originally in the jap one or the new 620gb upgrade one, but still play the original hardrive in sons one?, tonight they are going to do the same process again using a uk specific ps3, hopefully this will sort out the glitch ;) it did look as if it worked fine transfer went ok but definatley think it's a compatibility issue

Not so much the grammer lol, just the intricate story.

I'd try the uk model only tbh

Hi fatty5000, well ive been on YouTube and there is a walk through with the error we have, apparently it's an easy fix you just hold the on/ off button in a certain way and you can iron out the error and fix ;) so he can try that tonight, I love the interweb you can find out so much ;) thanx for your input ;)

I always thought a new hard drive had to be formatted in the new system for it to work with it even if it's brand new. Didn't know they were swappable

I'm surprised they are swappable as that was one of the key things about PS3 encryption. It was supposedly Drive/Machine specific and taking a HDD from one PS3 and putting it in another wouldn't work.

Obviously not though.

You can swap hardrives in the ps3 but it has to be sata, we think however the 640gb Harding is to big has to be sub 500gb, they are already formatted to fat32 when they arrive , we will get an exterior drive to back up the original then place a sub 500gb drive into it !!

The hard drive can be bigger than 500gb as far as I remember. you still have to fomat it once it's in the ps3 to get it to work correctly.
